AfD's Krah Withdraws from EU Campaign Amid Espionage Row

Far-Right German Politician Halts Activities After National Security Incident

Berlin — Maximilian Krah, the top candidate for the Alternative for Germany (AfD) in the upcoming European elections, has announced that he will suspend his campaign following the arrest of an aide suspected of espionage.

Krah, who has been at the forefront of the AfD's anti-immigration and Eurosceptic platform, made the announcement on Thursday after German authorities arrested an employee of his law firm on charges of spying for Russia. The arrest is part of an ongoing investigation into alleged Russian interference in German politics.

The suspension of Krah's campaign is a significant blow to the AfD, which had hoped to make gains in the European Parliament elections scheduled for May.
